Conservation
AND INNOVATION
Not only does Mengers and Sons Farms have the experience and expertise that makes us an efficient and profitable operation, but we also consider ourselves conservationists and innovative farmers – traits that have been passed down to us from our father.
Mengers and Sons Farms works very closely with the United States Department of Agriculture’s (USDA) Natural Resources Conservation Service (NRCS) to implement conservation practices to ensure that future generations will be able to continue farming the land. We have conservation plans in place on the majority of the farms we operate. We work very closely with the Soil and Water Conservation Districts, and the local District and Soil Conservationists to address issues like soil erosion, water quality, and water runoff. In 2010, Mengers and Sons Farms was nominated and awarded the Conservation Farmer of the year by the Bee Soil and Water Conservation District, and we were also awarded The Conservation Farmer in Area III by the Texas State Soil & Water Conservation Board (TSSWCB).
We regularly attend conferences and serve on several agricultural boards to stay up-to-date with new and innovative ways to farm the land and make a profit. We have upgraded equipment with the latest GPS technology to plant and harvest more efficiently. We are currently the only farmers in South Texas to grow Pima Cotton, and one of the few who grow sesame.
